Report onan awareness program on solid waste management on the theme segregation of dry and wet waste through color-coded dustbins.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) or Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) is a nation-wide campaign in India for the period 2014 to 2019 that aims to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India's cities, towns, urban and rural areas. It is India's largest cleanliness drive to date with three million government employees and students from all parts of India participating in 4,043 cities, towns, and rural areas. DES’s IMDR has warranted its contribution in achieving this national goal of Swachh Bharat Mission by organizing awareness program on waste management.

Under the initiative of the CSR committee, the students of IMDR conducted an awareness program on solid waste management on the theme segregation of dry and wet waste through color-coded dustbins. The event was organised on 17 September 2019 in the auditorium of the institute. The PGDM students of the IMDR, the staff members along with housekeeping staff of IMDR attended the program. It was one-hour program started at 3pm , which aimed to make people aware about the present scenario of mismanagement of solid waste in India and its harmful results. The concept has been explained by the student presenters in the form of well-articulated speech, supplemented with the appropriate videos on waste management.

The well scripted drama was performed by students to highlight the role of every member of society to keep the nation clean. It highlighted the role of young generation to maintain cleanliness of their surrounding and to protect the environment. The efforts of housekeeping staff have been appreciated with a token of gratitude towardsthem.

The program aimed to announce the waste management initiative at IMDR by segregation of dry and wet waste through color-coded dustbins i.e green for wet waste and blue for dry waste. The criteria for classification of waste into dry and wet has been discussed with the help of demonstrative methods.

On the same dais the tagline of the CSR committee was launchedi.e“ Let’s conserve what your next generations deserve” with an oath of conserving our environment and ensuring rational use of natural resources.

To the end of the program a quiz was conducted based to assess the level of understanding among the audience about environmental issues, which proved that the program was a great success, the program ended with vote of thanks and a promise to use colour coded dustbins to segregate wet and dry waste and to contribute substantially in order to achieve the goals of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
