In the first lecture of session 2 of the Impact Lecture Series, Mr. Sant Rajan started the event by speaking on the topic ‘Power of Inclusiveness, Diversity and Collaboration in successful innovation’. He spoke at length about various Innovation, Types of Innovation, Diversity in Innovation, Collaboration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, He then went on to explain in detail the meaning and importance of an innovation. He also explained the various characteristics of an innovation. An Innovation can be novel, should solve a problem, should add value etc. He then explained the diverse types of innovations by citing several examples. For example, he explained how airplanes turned out to be a radical innovation and how the telephone is an example of incremental innovation which keeps on improving. He also clarified the meanings of architecture and disruptive innovations. He explained that one meant entering a new market with existing technology whereas the latter introduced innovative technologies which completely replaced the preexisting ones. He further introduced the “ASSURED” framework which was designed by Dr. Mashelkar & Mr. Pandit. The “ASSURED” framework provides some features of a successful innovation. It looks at scalability and sustainability in economic, environmental, and societal context and delves on why startups should be distinctive. He also focused on Inclusiveness and explained why it is necessary to include all parties which are/ would be affected in the innovation process. Later, he also discussed how one should keep in mind the diverse consumer base while innovating by citing an example of a car cooler. Lastly, he also advised the any innovation should not be hard on the environment.

At the end of the first session, questions were asked by the students and faculty alike and Mr. Sant Ranjan enlightened everyone with his knowledge on the topic.

Mechanical Engineer and Technical Leader with 30 years of experience mostly innovative solutions in Home appliances and Automotive Air-conditioning, Electric vehicles, Thermal management, CFD and Solar systems.

Engg.) from HBTI, Kanpur Experience Design and development of Thermal management systems in Automotive comfort, Home appliances and Electric vehicles. Collaboration with top institutes in India and abroad and with Govt. bodies. System level simulation of Thermal management and performance of Appliances and automotive climate control system and CFD. Member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers for 12 years. Worked as Secretary for Smart India Hackathon for Smart Vehicles in 2018 and 2019, and as Chairman 2022. 3 Patents.
