IMDR releases book “Abhivruddhi - Making India a 5trillion-dollar economy”

“Access, equity and inclusion are the three pillars of an educational system”, said Dr. Dhanraj Mane, Director of Higher Education-Maharashtra. He was speaking as Chief Guest at a function to release the book ‘Abhivruddhi: Making India a Five Trillion-dollar economy’. The function was held at Fergusson College Amphitheatre on 11th August. The book has been published by Deccan Education Society’s IMDR. The editors are Dr. Parikshit Mahankaland Prof. Pradnya Mahajan, Assistant Professors at DES’s IMDR. The book launch was part of series of events planned by Deccan Education Society and IMDR to commemorate 75 years of independence, on the broad theme of “Pragat Bharat’.

Dr. Mane praised DES and IMDR for their innovative and thought-provoking initiative of releasing the volume on this occasion. He stressed on the importance of reading as habit in this information age. He said that education is a tool for overall development of an individual and hence must be rooted in our literary and cultural heritage. He urged teachers to constantly study and upgrade themselves and adopt the multi-disciplinary approach. Shri Mahesh Athavale, Vice Chairman of Governing Body and Council, DES, introduced the book to the audience. He said the book comprises articles by people belonging to different fields including corporate, government, NGOs, and academics. He said the objective of the book is to stimulate thinking about our economic growth. The book also includes contributions from IMDR faculty members.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Jagdish Kadam, Trustee - DES, emphasized the role of infrastructure in economic growth. The event also included experience sharing by some of the authors of the book. Smt Sonia Garcha, spoke about the role of SMEs in fueling economic growth and their challenges. Prof. Prashant Dhopavkar,spoke of the role of information technology in integrating infrastructure and other projects, instead of working in silos.

Dr. Sharad Kunte Chairman of the Governing Body and Council, Deccan Education Society, presided over the function. Speaking at the function Dr. Kunte said that India and Indians will progress when they have a strong will to do so. He stressed of the role of education in character building and the initiatives of DES towards skill development. Prof. Pradnya Mahajan proposed the vote of thanks.

Dignitaries at the function included: Shri Dhananjay Kulkarni, Secretary DES and Dr. Shikha Jain, Director, IMDR;The event was attended by IMDR and DES faculty and staff members.
