clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, electronic parks, etc. will be covered to
make Indian businesses more competitive globally by cutting down the
logistics costs and ensure proper linkages for local industry & consumers”.
The plan is driven by seven engines roads, railways, airports, ports,
mass transport, waterways and logistics infrastructure. This will boost
economic growth, attract foreign investment and create multiple
employment opportunities. There is specific focus on “Integration”,
it is an integrated effort where all ministries and departments are on
the same page – reducing costs and delivering projects more speedily.
Critical ministries like shipping, highways & roads, railways, aviation,
telecom, power, petroleum & gas, etc., are expected to work with a single
goal with the removal of multiple silos, files and other administrative
delays. Government development projects have historically seen cost
overruns, extended timelines in all result of poor implementation. Here
with focus on delivery with higher accountability among the government
departments and better the quality of delivery to the citizens. PM
Gati Shakti is based on six pillars: Comprehensiveness, Prioritization,
Optimization, Synchronization, Analytical and Dynamic [4].
GOI is expecting more cohesive working between public and private
sector. Faster and integrated decision making expected to see many
projects picking up speed. Another key aspect of this scheme is wider
adoption of newer technologies like drones, GPS, RFID, spatial planning
tools with ISRO imagery developed by Bhaskaracharya National Institute
for Space Applications and Geoinformatics to encourage automation.
Building sound digital ecosystem is one of the major objectives of this
government. Historically it’s been observed all development countries
like US, EU, Japan and developing country like China have invested
significantly in building robust transport systems and have ripped rich
dividend from it. A multi-modal efficient transport system is critical
to delivering socio-economic development. It brings down the cost of
goods, saves logistics time, reduce wastage and gives a competitive edge
in domestic and export markets. The cost of doing business is expected to
come down with both time savings and implementation efficiency.
GOI has shown significant focus on infrastructure in last few years.
Road construction increased 300% from 12km/day to 37km/day.
Installed electricity generation has been increasing significantly with
every passing year, with increased focus on renewable energy resources.
The national master plan will fix mega-infrastructure and connectivity
targets for India by 2024-25. This includes having a network of 2 lakh
