It has been observed that the share of Liquid/Money funds and debt
oriented funds in AUM in 2021 have shown decline by 2.4% and 7.8%
respectively. But the investment in equity oriented funds and ETF & FOFs
have shown growth by 7.8% and 2,3% respectively. In the beginning of
2021 debt and liquid funds jointly shared 50.9% of the MF AUM but with
the tremendous growth of Indian equity market in the year 2021, this
shared had declined to 40.7% while investment in equity funds surge to
          48,2% of MF AUM.
The retail investor has played very significant role in growth of mutual
fund industry. In the beginning of 2021, 47.8% of the MF AUM was held
by Institutional investors whereas 52,2% belongs to individual. By the
end of 2021 the Institutional investors’ share accounted for 45% whereas
Individual investors’ share increased to 55% in MF AUM. It has been
noticed that instead of looking for immediate gratification by holding
investments in MFs for short term, recently individual investors have
changed their outlook and opted to holding investment for long term
which fetches comparatively high return. This change in investor outlook
will undoubtedly paving way for further growth in the mutual fund
          market.
