works and Rupees 57,350 Crores for the National highways.
That means almost Rupees 117,00,000/- Crores were allocated to the
road construction sector
The Government had also planned to construct 8500 kms of roads by
the end of this March 2022.The pace at which the daily road construction
is going on the target is very much within reach.
The Government is planning an additional 11,000 kilometers of
National Highway corridors to be completed, which were in process from
so many years. Such projects shall now be expedited and completed under
fast track projects.
The Government of India is constructing the world’s longest highway,
the Delhi Mumbai Express Highway by March 2023, which is presently
under construction. This is a Greenfield highway, The specialty of this
Greenfield highway.is that, its route is totally going through seven plus
States and the road will pass through rural area which is relatively
neglected, where there was no connectivity at all, earlier. With proper
connectivity with these Greenfield highways passing these regions will
develop at an impressive speed.
As far as construction is concerned, The Bharatmala Pariyojna project
worth Rupees 3,50,000 Crore is underway. It means 73.37 billion U.S.
dollars’ worth and 33,000 kilometer length of roads are to be constructed.
If we consider the urban area, then the Smart City Mission (SCM). tenders
have been released for 6017 projects worth Rupees 1,80,000 crore ($24.36
billion), work orders have also been issued. Out of this for 5300 projects
worth Rs 1,49,000/- Crore work orders have been issued.
Out of these 5300, 2700 projects worth Rupees 48,000 Crore have been
completed already. These are some major portfolios as far as infrastructure
is concerned. The telecom, energy, power is also going on well.
The Government is also looking at, inland water transport very
progressively. In Gati Shakti Yojana, the inland water transport sector
is highlighted. Our Honourable Prime Minister has declared a mission
to achieve this economy along with improvement in all these transport
infrastructure facilities.
As we know, the Government of India on its part has worked towards
identifying the challenges and opportunities to achieve this ambitious
vision at the apex level of achieving five trillion dollars economy. If we
consider the vast geography of India, then logistics becomes one of the
major challenges. From post- independence period till 5-10 years back,
we realised that it was a major challenge. The logistics cost of delivering
