planning is the responsibility of the mayor of the city. Unlike India, the
mayor recruits the town manager, police chief, fire chief, engineering chief
etc. The complete responsibility of the city administration is kept at the
city-level where all funds from revenue sources are consolidated. Cities
compete with each other for attracting investments and workforce by
offering great living experience. (Shen et al,2011)
All meetings of the city administration are kept open to people (through
a town-hall) where people can participate in the planning process of their
city. This makes the planning process more participative than India.
Various planning committees are instituted where people from different
          walks of life participate.
India’s city planning process needs to be more participative, inclusive
and federal. This will help in resolving the challenges our cities are currently
          facing. (Mohan R,2012)

            Conclusion
India is at the cusp of great economic growth potential. This growth
will be driven through the Indian cities. Hence, it is critical that our cities
are geared towards providing a stable platform for economic growth and
development. This can only happen if there is special attention paid to
health, sanitation, infrastructure, housing, education, waste management
and environmental concerns. The planning process of our cities also
requires a rejig so that the process is more participative and federal.
