The rivers of Mula and Mutha have been an integral part of the city
of Pune. The river supports lakhs of people who reside on the banks
of these rivers. Both rivers are tributary to Bhima river.

Subsequently, the Bhima river flows through the village of Kavadi

in the Solapur district which is a habitat for many migratory birds.
However, the increase in pollution in recent years has resulted in a
reduction in the number of birds. Pollution from effluents released
into the river at Pune has been found to cause high levels of pollution
in the Bhima River, the reservoir of the Ujani dam, and the Krishna

River too, resulting in many water-borne ailments.
