largely influenced by his father who was a Sanskrit scholar. The
Sanskrit language has its roots far in the past and embodies
cultural and religious values since time immemorable. The
impressions of his father’s teachings were imbibed on Tilak’s
mind right from his early days. Tilak was always a very
            independent thinker.
Tilak, after completing his BA (Mathematics) took up a Law
degree. His knowledge of Maths and Law greatly influenced
his perspective of handling various situations. His life, be it
personal, political, or social, was impacted by his analytical
ability. His thought process showed a fine blend of logic and
            creativity.
He firmly believed in the academic and holistic development
of every individual. It was this thinking which led to the creation
of the Deccan Education Society in the year 1884. (DES
1884) Tilak’s revolutionary thoughts combined with deeply
rooted ethics made him create wonders. No surprise then that
Mahatma Gandhi called him the “Maker of Modern India”,
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru called him the “Father of the Indian
            Revolution”.
Tilak deeply believed that independence was a primary and
fundamental right. He was convinced that it was a necessity
for any individual’s or nation’s upliftment and progress. Tilak’s
struggle for independence and his revolutionary thoughts are
well depicted in the fourfold program of Swarajya, Swadeshi,
            Boycott, and National Education.

               Political career
Tilak’s struggle for freedom has been unprecedented in the
history of India. Tilak was imprisoned many times but fought
on with complete determination and passion. His persistence
in fighting for the freedom of the nation knew no bounds. He
            always practiced what he preached.

               Religious & political views
To bring about unity in the Indian people and motivate
them to fight against the British, Tilak took the help of the
scriptures like the Ramayana and Bhagwad Gita. He redefined
