a supernatural entity who is a leader, guide, and
inspiration.
Amish has created a world very similar to
ours and has tried to explain the supernatural
phenomena using science-fiction. What’s STUDENTS
interesting is how believable it all seems. From
the beginning of the book, he portrays shiva as
just another human living in the mountains with
his tribe. His journey into various kingdoms,
finding love, finding his purpose and how he is
connected in the grand scheme of things is the
general theme of the books. There are references
to other gods like Kali, Ganesh, Vasudev, etc. and
popular stories, which are blended seamlessly
into the storyline.
What is unique about the series is that it
retains the philosophical learnings about love,
life, friendship, and family values that are always
taught in Hindu mythology. Another important
philosophical topic that it explores is of Good
and Evil. This topic is explored in great detail
during a discussion between Vasudev and Shiva.
Personally, it was the most interesting, well written
and objective take on Good v/s Evil. It is refreshing
to see that there are no monsters or villains
created. It happens many times throughout the
series that you’ll struggle to understand who is in
the wrong, only to realize no one is.
It says in the book that, “We are a downscaled
version of the Universe.” Maybe after reading the
series, you’ll find an understanding of life and the
universe; I definitely did.
