P. 54
Tilak’s successor editors, N. C. Kelkar and Kakasaheb
Khadilkar (K.P.) also authored and scripted Marathi plays
which propagated the spirit of nationalism and regard for
political independence. Tilak encouraged ‘H.V. Mehendale and
Co.’ to produce quality harmoniums which had a large demand
in households, music schools, Bhajani Mandals, etc.
The impact of philosophy of Swadeshi brought a remarkable
change in industrial ethos of Maharashtra and Maharashtra
became the topmost industrialised state of the country, which
brought rapid urbanization and modernization in the state and
improved the standard of living of the Marathi manoos and
made it the most advanced and progressive state of the country.
Maharashtra no doubt, is indebted to Lokmanya, who was
instrumental in bringing radical improvement of the mindset
and lifestyle of average Marathi manoos!
