society for various vocational courses, rose to prominence. Many
professional courses in landscaping, interior designing, travel
and tourism, fashion designing, jewellery, photography were
started here. Over time, the Deccan Education Society created
four management institutes. The society also stepped into the
paramedical field. In collaboration with reputed companies
like IBM, the society has started certificate and degree courses
in advanced subjects like data science, and business analytics.
Recognizing the need of the hour, the Deccan Education
Society started a degree course in journalism, animation, film,
and television. They started an Agri- business management
college and an agricultural research institute in Sangli using the
vast space available near Willingdon College. At present, at least
one new course is being developed at the Deccan Education
Society which provides vocational training almost every year.

Not Just Hardworking Students but Educational Institutions
            That Shape the Nation

DES does not meet the needs of the society by producing
smart students who get only degrees. Successful citizens in all
walks of life and those who achieve new heights and contribute
significantly to their fields come from DES institutions. Literary
writers P. L. Deshpande, Ram Ganesh Gadkari, Shriram Lagu,
Sai Paranjape, artists and scientists, dignified doctors like Dr.
Sancheti, entrepreneurs like Hanumantrao Gaikwad and
Pramod Chaudhary, were nourished by the Deccan Education
Society. Today, there are many officers and secretaries who
have studied in the Deccan Education Society in almost all
the departments of the Government of Maharashtra or the
Central Government. Many former ministers in the state and
central government, former chief ministers like Sharad Pawar
and former governors like Ram Naik have also been students
of the Deccan Education Society. Former Prime Ministers P. V.
Narasimha Rao and V. P. Singh were both students at Fergusson
College, while Vice President B. D. Jatti was a student at
Willingdon College, Sangli. Students who studied at Fergusson
college can be found working as faculty in universities in Britain
and the United States even today.
