and make learning effective the course website and well-designed tools are used.
Objectives of the Study
1. To identify the perception of the students towards e-learning during Covid-19
lockdown phase.
2. To check whether perception of the students differ with reference to
demographics.
Methodology
The present study is a descriptive type of research. The data has been collected in the
month of April 2020 when all educational institutions in India, were temporarily closed
due to country wide lockdown pertinent to Covid-19.The secondary as well as primary
data sources have been used .The primary data has been collected through online
survey .The self-administered questionnaire with close ended questions has been
designed and used for online survey. The questionnaire comprised of four sections:
demographic prole, use of technology, perceived usefulness of e-learning, and the
intention to use e-learning in future. The present study adopted the scales developed
and used in Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) proposed by Davis (1989) with some
of the required modications. The data has been collected from 182 respondents
located in different states of India. A convenience sampling and snow ball sampling
methods have been used. The respondents were the students who are using e-learning
resources by choice or by compulsion during this lockdown phase.
The ve Point Likert-type scales has been used to identify perception of the
respondents towards e- learning. For the analysis of the data tables, pie charts, bar
diagrams and cross tabulation have been used. The mean score has been used to
assess the Likert scale based responses. The present study is limited to perception of
the students and attitude of e-learning only during lockdown phase pertaining to
Covid-19 pandemic in India.
Data Analysis and Interpretation
The questionnaire comprised of four sub-sections. The data analysis has been done
section wise.
Demographic Prole:
The data has been collected form 182 respondents representing 16 states and 01 UT of
India (Figure No.1).The majority (34%) of respondents were from Maharashtra. The
respondents were the students who were using e-learning sources for education. Out of
total respondents 47 % were males and 53% were females (Figure No.2). The data
reveals that 88% of the respondents belonged to the 19-29 age groups, 5 % were
between 30-39 years, 4 % were between 40-49 and 3% below 18 years (Figure
No.4).Majority of respondents represented the young population who, as per their age,
are expected to accept new technological advancement easily. The data has been
collected from 16 States and one Union Territory, 64% of the respondents were from
urban area, 20% from sub-urban area and 15% from rural area. This shows the
majority of the respondents using e-learning mode were from urban areas (Figure
No.3).
