faced by Indian farmers and the wider population because of their
ability to thrive in diverse environmental conditions. Millets are also
an excellent source of various nutrients.

The focus of this book chapter is to explore the relationship between
millet production and its economic aspects in India. It aims to shed
light on the significance of millets in India by tracing their journey
from grains to their role, in modern agriculture. This study will
explore the cost-benefit analysis of millet productions, a network of

market dynamics, and the potential for value addition.

        1.2 Need of the Study

With the many-fold increase in population, the world at large is

facing a multitude of economic and agricultural challenges. India,
as a country, is also navigating through the challenges of population,
poverty, malnutrition, diverse environmental conditions, etc. As
the country is grappling with the major challenge of feeding a vast
population and sustainable agriculture, millet production has become

        a hot topic.

India has a huge geographical diversity ranging from deserts in
Rajasthan to the wetlands of Kerala. This imposes a great challenge
in producing any agricultural crop in a mass quantity. Millets, which

are very adaptable to varied archaeological conditions, provide a
good solution for this problem. Along with this Millets are resilient
        to climate change also.

Thus the production of millets provides multiple opportunities and

fulfils various needs of India. Hence, it is very important to understand
Millet Production and its economics to provide actionable insights to
farmers, policymakers, and stakeholders to contribute to India’s food

security, agricultural sustainability, and economic prosperity.
