4.5 Suggestion for Scholarships
Tilak suggested that the Kings of the princely states and
the landlords in our country should come forward and give
scholarships to eligible candidates to undertake experiments on
different types of land as well as to go abroad to take specialized
training. It would really be helpful for the progress of the
country. Tilak advised the government to set up a separate fund
for that purpose.
4.6 Industrial Conferences
Tilak expressed happiness over organizing of Industrial
Conferences and Exhibitions at the time and place of the
conferences of Indian National Congress every year. He
expected that there should be discussions on important issues
like agricultural education, industry education, fund raising,
scholarships, etc. in such industrial conferences and these
decisions should be executed and implemented by the concerned
government authorities.
5. Conclusion
It is observed that elegant people write on issues of economic
nationalism in scholarly style, but Tilak has written the same
matter in simple language understandable to common people,
in his own newspapers. He tried to awaken nationalism among
common people through it. He showed how the foreign
rulers were exploiting our country and doing injustice with
countrymen. He gave a strong message to the people and
created unrest against the rulers through his editorials in ‘Kesari’
newspaper.
He expressed the need of industry education for the rapid
economic development of our country. He believed industrial
training was an important measure to increase the rate of
industrialization and to bring the economy of our country on
the path of progress. It was the need of the hour at that time.
In short, Tilak used his editorials in newspapers as a medium
to give important messages to the society as well as to the
government. Similarly, his thoughts on industry education and
training are totally and aptly applicable to our country even at
the present times.
