Moonlighting:
Boon or bane in
today’s era
Shrirang Godbole
Moonlighting is a term used to describe the
practice of working a second job in addition to
one’s primary occupation. It is a phenomenon that
has become increasingly common in recent years,
with people seeking to supplement their income
or pursue their passion outside of their main
source of employment. However, moonlighting
can also have negative consequences for both
the employee and their employer.
Moonlighting is often seen as a way to make
ends meet, especially in situations where the
primary job does not pay well or provide enough
hours. In many cases, people who moonlight do
so in order to support their families or pay off
debts. Others may be pursuing a side business
or hobby that they hope to turn into a full-time
career in the future.
One example of moonlighting is a nurse who
works full-time in a hospital but also works part-
time in a clinic on weekends. This allows the nurse
to earn extra income while gaining experience in
a different setting. Another example is a graphic
designer who works full-time for a company but
also freelances in their spare time. This allows
them to build their portfolio and potentially attract
new clients.
