SDG 1:
1. Awareness and Advocacy:
Launch a nationwide awareness campaign to educate farmers,
consumers, and stakeholders about the benefits of millet for nutrition,
climate-resilient agriculture, and income generation. Collaborate
with non-governmental organizations, farmers’ associations, and
nutrition experts to advocate for millets in government policies.
2. Research and Development:
Invest in research to develop high-yielding millet varieties that are
suitable for different agro-climatic regions across India. Promote the
development of millet-based value-added products, such as millet
flour, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals.
3. Infrastructure Development:
Establish millet processing units, cleaning and dehulling machines,
and storage facilities at the local and regional levels to reduce post-
harvest losses. Develop a supply chain infrastructure to ensure the
availability of millets in both rural and urban markets.
4. Farmer Training and Capacity Building:
Conduct training programs for farmers on millet cultivation
techniques, organic farming, and best practices. Encourage the
formation of millet producer groups and cooperatives for collective
marketing and procurement.
5. Financial Support:
Provide financial incentives to farmers for millet cultivation, such as
subsidies for seeds, equipment, and organic farming practices. Offer
low-interest loans and insurance schemes to protect farmers against
crop losses.
6. Market Promotion:
Collaborate with the food industry and retail chains to promote
millet-based products. Encourage schools, mid-day meal programs,
and anganwadis to include millet in their meals to create a new
generation of millet consumers.
7. Policy Support:
