Agile Global Workforce (Lim & Lee, 2021; Özgen et al., 2023). Research suggests that Gen Z prioritizes
cross-functional collaboration and seeks meaningful work (Park & Choi, 2020). Additionally, their
technological expertise and entrepreneurial spirit further fuel their potential to thrive in this dynamic work
environment (Ozkan et al., 2023; Lim & Lee, 2021).
The Abilene Paradox: A Threat to Viksit Bharat 2047's Goals
Despite their inherent strengths, Gen Z, like any other generation, is susceptible to the Abilene Paradox. This
can hinder the progress of Viksit Bharat 2047 in three key areas:
1. Hindered Innovation and Progress: When team members withhold their true ideas and concerns due to
the Abilene Paradox, the collective pool of creative thinking diminishes (Anderson et al., 2022). This
can hinder the development of innovative solutions and strategies crucial for achieving Viksit Bharat
2047's ambitious goals. In diverse and geographically dispersed teams, where multiple perspectives
are crucial for innovation and progress, the Abilene Paradox can be particularly detrimental.
2. Ineffective Policymaking and Social Cohesion: The pressure to conform within groups can lead to
reluctance to voice dissenting opinions or raise concerns during policy discussions, ultimately leading
to suboptimal policies (Harvey, 1974). This can hinder effective policymaking crucial for achieving
the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047, leading to policies that may not be representative of the needs of the
population. Additionally, the Abilene Paradox can erode trust and social cohesion, essential for an
inclusive and prosperous society (Lim & Lee, 2021).
3. Limited Collaboration and Achievement of Shared Goals: When individuals prioritize outward
conformity over genuine evaluation, collaboration between stakeholders, including government,
businesses, and civil society, can be hindered (Ayad & Sapienza, 2020). This can hinder the progress
of Viksit Bharat 2047, as effective collaboration is essential for achieving the vision's shared goals.
Mitigating the Paradox: Fostering an Agile and Inclusive Viksit Bharat
Recognizing the Abilene Paradox's influence on Gen Z and its potential to hinder the progress of Viksit Bharat
2047 is crucial. Here are some potential strategies to address this challenge:
1. Promoting Open Communication and Psychological Safety: Creating safe spaces for open and honest
communication is essential. Research suggests that psychological safety empowers individuals to share
their ideas and concerns without fear of judgment or retribution (Edmondson, 2019). This fosters a
collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued and contribute to decision-making,
ultimately leading to better outcomes and progress towards achieving a Viksit Bharat.
