Kabaddi and Kho-Kho are two Indian tag variants that have their roots in prehistoric times: Kho-

Kho dates back to the fourth century BCE. The Naṟṟiṇai (written in 300 CE) describes atya-patya, a

variation of tag. Specifically, atya-patya and kabaddi were employed for military training. During
the Mughal Empire, a type of wrestling known as pehlwani was developed by combining the native

malla-yuddha with the Persian varzesh-ebastani. The Indian hockey team competed in the 1936

Berlin Olympics and defeated Germany 8-1 to win the competition. British India participated in six
Olympic Games during the colonial era and took home medals.in the game of field hockey. During

that time, British sports were introduced to India. In addition to trying to defeat the British in their
sports, some Indians were engaging in British sports as a means of emulating their colonizers and

moving up the social ladder. In order to propagate British values among Indians, the British also
sought to introduce sports to the country. During this time, attempts were made to create indigenous

Indian games, which resulted in the successful standardization of games like Kho-Kho and Kabaddi

as well as its exhibition at the 1936 Summer Olympics. The Mohun Bagan, one of the first football
teams in history, was founded in 1889. When The Football Association started establishing official

football rules, the club was established. The worldwide football governing organization was
              established prior to FIFA.

1.2 Sport as a Symbol of National Power
Athletic The Professional Sports League and Its Effect on Indian Sports Even while several Indian

sports leagues have had remarkable success, their effectiveness is called into doubt due to
corruption and poor governance. Professional sports leagues have finally arrived in India, 135 years

after the first one was established in the United States. The Premier Hockey League was created by
the now-defunct Indian Hockey Federation in 2005, three years before to the IPL's debut. The

league came to an end in 2008 as a result of allegations of corruption, the Indian Olympic

Association suspending the federation, and a general decline in Indian sports.

There are currently over 12 national professional sports leagues in India, varying in terms of
development. Unsurprisingly, the IPL is the most well-known of every national league for

professional sports in India. Cricket is the most popular sport in India, with a large fan base. It also
draws generous sponsorship dollars, making the Indian Premier League the richest cricket league

globally. Not just for the millions of Indian fans, but also for the brightest talent from around the

globe, the money in turn draws. There are currently over One hundred professional leagues in
different sports all over the world. Not every league has the same financial standing in terms of the

annual revenue it brings in. The Indian Premier League is believed to be the fourth most profitable
league globally, with an estimated value of US $6.3 billion, somewhat surpassing the $5.8 billion

USD value of the English Premier League! The NFL, MLB, and NBA are the three most profitable

                                                                                                               346
