• Food Waste Policies: Develop policies and strategies to
reduce food waste, including composting, recycling, and
donation programs. Monitor and report on the impact of these
               initiatives.
           • Packaging Regulations: Enforce regulations on sustainable
packaging practices to minimize waste generated by millet
               products.

        5. Research and Innovation:

           • Research and Development Centres: Invest in research
and development centres dedicated to exploring innovative
applications of millets in various sectors, such as healthcare,
               textiles, and animal feed.

           • Technology Transfer: Promote the transfer of technology
and best practices from research institutions to farmers,
processing industries, and small-scale businesses, following
the example of the Nutrihub incubator in Hyderabad.

        Goal 15: Life on Land
Goal 15 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) resonates with the imperative of preserving life on land,
encompassing terrestrial ecosystems, biodiversity, and the intricate
web of life that thrives on our planet. Biodiversity is essential
to maintaining the balance of ecosystems, supporting life, and
fostering a sustainable environment. It’s in this context that the
cultivation and promotion of millets, a diverse group of grains, find
their place in the framework of Goal 15.

Millets, often dubbed ‘Nutri-cereals,’ have played a fundamental
role in human diets for thousands of years. These drought-resistant,
resilient crops not only provide vital sustenance but also enrich and
restore the lands they grow on. The cultivation of millets has the
potential to transform land management practices and contribute
        significantly to achieving SDG 15.

In this chapter, we delve into the intricate relationship between
millets and life on land. We explore how these small but
mighty grains offer hope for conserving ecosystems, promoting
biodiversity, and achieving sustainable agriculture. With a focus on
India, a country that has embarked on several innovative initiatives
to leverage the power of millets, we uncover the profound impact of
