of Bajra in the state which insinuates at a near to optimum utilization
        of the state’s land resources.

        4.1.7. Andhra Pradesh:

Andhra Pradesh is one of the leading states in India in terms of millet

production. However, most of the production is sold as cattle feed
and very little is used for human consumption which leads to low
profitability for millet cultivators in Andhra Pradesh. The promotion

of millets as a healthy food option by the government and the
increasing awareness among the urban population about the health
benefits of millets is expected to increase the market demand for
        millets in the future.

        4.1.10. Uttar Pradesh:

The output of millets, including jowar, bajra, kodo, and Sanwa among
others, places Uttar Pradesh second in the nation, marking a significant
agricultural accomplishment for the state. The state produces over 50

lakh metric tons of millets, which is 19.69% of the nation’s total
millets output. As part of the ongoing International Year of Millets
festivities, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has authorized the launch of the
UP Millets Revival Program to encourage the production of coarse
grains in the state. The program will continue through 2026–2027,

for which, a budget of Rs 186.27 crore has already been allocated.

        4.2. Analysis

Millet production in India has increased significantly in recent years.

In 2021-22, India produced a record 15.3 million metric tons of
millet. This increase in production is due to several factors, including
government support, increased awareness of the health benefits of
millet, and rising demand for gluten-free foods.
