The economics of millet production in India are generally favorable.
        Millets  require  less inputs than  other  cereals,  such as water and
        fertilizer, and they can be grown on a variety of soils. This makes
        them a good option for small-scale farmers and farmers in marginal

        areas.

        4.2.1 Economic significance of millet production in India

        Millet production plays an important role in the Indian economy. It

        provides a livelihood to millions of small-scale farmers and contributes
        to the country’s food security. Millets are also an important source of
        export revenue for India.

        In 2022-23, India exported millets worth $75.46 million. The major

        export  destinations  for Indian  millets  are  Saudi Arabia,  the  UAE,
        Nepal, Oman, the UK, Japan, Taiwan, and South Africa.

        The main challenges faced by millet production in India are:
