        1.1 Introduction

Millets, a group of small-seeded, hardy cereal grains, have garnered
increasing attention in recent years for their nutritional value, climate
resilience, and potential to address food security challenges. In India,

millets have been integral to traditional diets for centuries, yet their
production and consumption have declined over time. Recognizing
their importance, the Indian government has implemented various
schemes and initiatives to promote millet production and processing.

This report provides an overview of these government schemes, with
a focus on millet production and processing, based on extensive
        research and a literature review.
