Millet cultivation in India has a rich history and cultural significance.
However, the shift towards high-yielding rice and wheat varieties led
to the neglect of millets for some time. In recent years, the nutritional
benefits and environmental sustainability of millets have been re-

emphasized, prompting renewed interest. Government initiatives
play a crucial role in reviving millet production and processing.

Government schemes and initiatives have played a vital role in
reviving millet production and processing in India. However, to fully

harness the potential of millets, a multi-pronged approach is required.
This includes continued investment in research, increased awareness
campaigns, improved market access, and greater coordination among

states and stakeholders. Millets hold promise not only as a nutritious
food source but also as a sustainable crop that can contribute to food
security and climate resilience in India. As such, further strengthening
and expansion of government schemes for millets are warranted to
        fully realize these benefits.

The Government has introduced various schemes and initiatives to
support millet production and processing. Some of the key schemes
and initiatives related to millet production and processing in India
        are as follows:

        National Food Security Mission (NFSM):

NFSM-Pulses and NFSM-Nutri Cereals components support the
cultivation of millets by providing financial assistance, seeds, and

        training to farmers.

        Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY):

RKVY promotes millet cultivation by providing financial support for
various agricultural activities, including the cultivation of millets.
        State governments implement this scheme.
