Title – Cybersecurity at Workplace

As a part of student development activities and corporate connect, IMDR continuously organizes webinars by various renowned industry experts. On January 7 th 2023, The guest session was arranged by IMDR for PGDM-I Batch 2022-24 to understand to most significant topic of today’s technology driven era- cybersecurity at workplace. IMDR Pune invited Ms.Alpana Kulkarni Bhoge, Head of Marketing, Cyble Inc. Bangalore. She has expertise in Marketing and communication, and worked across the vertices like GTM, PR, events, digital and corporate communications. She has led the content, digital, and branding strategy for organizations to aptly position and drive growth for products and services.

This session was for the PGDM I & PGDM II students.

The session started with an explanation of what is Cybercrime. She elaborated more on how the data breach actually takes place, the cost of the data breach, and entities that are targeted for data breach such as banks, government companies like IRCTC, etc. She also explained what is Dark web and Deep web, and examples of the dark web like a Ransomware attacks. She also explained the common ways through which threat actor enters the system, such as through emails, through the wrong link clicks, through unsecured HTTP websites, and with pirated software being used. She shared simple precautions that should be taken to prevent the entry of threat actors into systems. The precautions are listed as:

  • Open HTTPS sites only
  • Don’t download pirated software
  • Don’t open unknown links
  • Make sure you remain vigilant while using social media apps
  • Scan external storage devices for viruses
  • Avoid using unsecured Wi-Fi networks

All the students took invaluable takeaways from this great discussion.
